Riley Stern: ‘Community resistance and organization has been a product of Operation Metro’
Riley Stern is a fourth-year University of Minnesota student who is majoring in economics and mathematics. She lives in Shoreview, about 30 minutes north of campus.
“I’m graduating this semester. My mom also works in the University of Minnesota, so growing up, it was kind of just a known fact for me that I would definitely apply to the U and like, it was a top choice for me.
“I have not had anybody in my immediate circle that has been, like, abducted or anything. I have seen ICE agents. I’ve seen ICE agents in cars.
“I think what we’ve seen over the last, you know, eight weeks or so has been really marked by the Twin Cities community coming together in a way that maybe they haven’t before. I think as a metro area, the Twin Cities is already kind of very close and neighborly compared to maybe some other metro areas. But yeah, I think the community resistance and organization has really been a product of Operation Metro surge.”
